The Cannabis Embassy coordinates action at the Human Rights Treaty Bodies.

The Human Rights Treaty Bodies are ad’hoc bodies created by a treaty. They are hosted in UN buildings but are independent from it. Each body monitors one treaty. They are composed of independent experts who monitor States’ compliance with international human rights treaties.  For Cannabis-related human rights violations concern mainly the Human Rights Commission on civil and political rights (ICCPR treaty) and the Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR treaty) (see treaties’ acronyms below, underneath the table). Treaty bodies can receive shadow reports, consider individual communications, and issue general comments or other forms of reports furthering the understanding and advancement of specific rights.

There are also other UN human rights processes that are not “treaty bodies” (Office of the High Commissionner or OHCHR, Human Rights Council or HRC, Special Procedures, etc.). See our page on Human Rights for more information.

The Cannabis Embassy’s Permanent Mission in Geneva (PM Geneva) is the Cannabis Embassy Government‘s body (under the Ministry of External Affairs) mandated to interact with international organisations headquartered in Geneva as well as Paris, Rome, and Montréal.
